Crap. This is what ails me. Little wonder I have had problems.

Mine is in the prefrontal cortex on the right side. In worse place actually. Closer to the surface.

Looks like I am headed to brain surgery.

I had a meeting with the top neurosurgeon in Finland.

Remember the MRI I took few weeks ago?

He showed it to me and pointed the cavernoma I have.

Basically I have a 1 cm x 0.5 cm hole in my brain.

(Explains the bad songs? :))

All my symptoms from the past 9 years make complete sense to him. He had
done a paper in cavernoma surgery and how it relates to epilepsy. We are probably
going to do it through public system due to the 30 000 euro price tag that it would be
if we did it privately here in Finland. Although you can not put price on health.

If it happens, when it happens I will let you people know.

Now. I am off to try to just chill. I will make music when I feel like it. But do not
be surprised if there will be less music. If something happens to me that makes it
hard for me to make music after surgery. I will let you guys know about that too.
If I die. Quietness will do the talking. Risk is small though he said.

There is a small chance the epilepsy and other problems like bi polar could get better! Which gives me hope for the first time in 9 years. Just to be able to take less of these awful medicines would prolong my life.

Basically my initial feeling 9 years ago that something happened in my brain when
I felt like my whole skin was on fire was right. But my initial thought was brain tumor which
I did not have. The doctors do not seem to understand that cavernomas do not give
as severe symptoms but are very hard for us patients anyway.

The doctors performed a standard neurological exam to me each time after I said
about my feeling that there is something wrong in my brain, in which you touch
your nose with both hands etc. But due to the cavernoma affecting me too
little for me to fail that test. They never took a MRI
which would have revealed that I was right. So we went with their diagnosis
which was anxiety disorder.

Well. Here we are. Onwards and hopefully not upwards too soon. But as I said, if I
kick the bucket. I hope the music I have made will serve some people after my death
too.

It has been a pleasure.

Another one with the Bias AMP. Man that thing sounds great.

I had to use "new time" (new plugin that comes with FL Studio, it looks like
newtone but is made for quantizing audio instead) to quantize most of the guitars because my guitar playing is not that great and after doing that. I kind
a ran out of steam and just repeated the ending. Adding only new organ
there and going with the bridge drums.

I have to say I am learning to love newtime. Sure I have to put a lot of
markers on myself since the note recognition is not that great yet. But
it is a step towards being able to correct my guitar playing to a level
where I can use it again. I used to do it back in the day, but it was so
tedious that now with my epilepsy etc. It is hard to go through all that
effort. As bluesy as this song sounds, most of the work was done with
a mouse which flares my carpal going up my shoulder. Really rock and
roll right?

I know the pros have done this sort of thing for years. I was watching
Pensados place (Youtube show for audio engineers) a while back
and there was this one guy whose name escapes me right now who said
that Rock and Roll is dead because everyone is doing it.

A poem I wrote in October 1998 to usenet group rec.arts.poems

Addicted to music
******************
My name is Antti
and I am a addict.
I listen to music.
You can find me from a shower
singing like Luciano Pavarotti during a bad flu
and the next moment
I can be wearing giant Sun Glasses
listening to U2.
U2 a addict?
Do your legs become electric wire
when AC DC is plugged on and live?
Do you spend your late night sessions with the moon
accompanied by Beethovens fourteenth sonata?
I do.
I am
a man of all the nationalities
play me some Jean Sibelius and I am a Finn
Play me some John Cougar Mellencamp
and I am ready to dance on the sand of Texas with a cowboy hat,
play me some Bjork
and I will speak swedish with a twist.
Music for me
is the apple tree of Eden
and I can not help but eat
bite that juicy fruit.
That makes me forget
I am just another no good dreamer.

ok with that, but please, please do not try to own these pieces, because
then I have to complain to services such as youtube.

Reason? Because others use these works in youtube videos etc and if you

I will respond to by saying I have made it originally.

I can not demand money from you people because of the license I have released
these under. As the licence states (I can not revoke these freedoms).

--

Why do I do this?

I am a eccentric. I began making music at age 26. Too late to become
really good. But my life has been a mess and music offered me some
illusion I escaped to.

Also, I have bi polar 2 plus epilepsy which have caused me tremendous
difficulties in the last decade. I have lost a wife to divorce caused
by the disease. My physical and mental health have been wrecked.
My doctors have only began to take me seriously now 9 years later.

I live in Finland and my epilepsy was not taken for real until I got
grand mal seizure. Its origins were still being actively denied until I got MRI
by myself from a private clinic this Jan 2020 and found out I have a cavernoma
that has bled to my brain. Causing me to have epilepsy. It probably
has contributed to my emotions my whole life. I am 46. A little
too late to undo the damage it has caused.

I guess you could say this musical collection was caused by brain damage. :D

I hope it has some positive effect on the world.

--

About quality?

It varies. As I said I have bipolar 2, last 9 years I have had massive
battle with epilepsy (at worst 10 a day). I go through times when
I feel my music is almost good enough that I could have pursued becoming
pro had I gotten to it earlier. But then at times, I just made it
because I was in literal mental hell. For years I made a piece
every morning, rain or shine.

Some of those pieces were received well. Some of them were horrible
crap. Sadly. These are not seperated into crap and semi ok.
Someone else could do that? I hate to critisize my own work. Oh and
please categorize them too. Oh and release a torrent! Go ahead good
samaritan.

I hate to critisize myself.

--

Future?

Maybe there will be one. If not. Other than my former marriage, the bright point
of my life in the past 7 years has been to make music for ya'all.

Kyle Le got it all started, that is why there are lots of semi crappy
pieces with asian instruments / titles (He had a famous youtube vlog
from Vietnam). Also I have to thank reddit gamedev community, the original
torrent was done there by Aizome. I released one afterwards. As I said
I would not mind if someone made a torrent of "better" pieces that
was categorized.

If I buy the farm (die) due to the epilepsy. I would like you people
to use these pieces and not only these pieces but maybe make adaptations
of the projects. FLstudio project files are available on my google drive accounts.

I have splurged money on very few commercial instruments due to being always broke.

Sorry for the extremely messy looking projects. But I am very random person.

Once There Was A Girl Once There Was A Boy

Vocals

Instrumental

A Test on Bias amp FX. I ended up stripping most guitars off though.

Once There Was A Girl Once There Was A Boy

once there was a girl
once there was a boy

now a madman is howling
howling at the moon
and a sad girl is crying
what did you do

once there was a girl
once there was a boy

but he broke her heart
like it was a toy

forgive me
for losing my mind

once there was a girl
once there was a boy

what are you gonna do
when life beats you black and blue

what are you gonna do
when your karma comes back at you

now a madman is howling
howling at the moon
and a sad girl is crying
what did you do

nothing is as sweet as
as love when you lose it
nothing is as precious
as the memory of you

once there was a girl
once there was a boy

but he broke her heart
like it was a toy

once there was a girl
once there was a boy

Forgive me!

Collective intelligence - how difference in cultures affect individual intelligence.

Collective intelligence - how difference in cultures affect individual intelligence.

By Antti Luode

I am sure there is a word for it. I am sure there is a cultural science name for it.

But I have never heard of it.

I was watching the new James May Amazon documentary in which he is travelling in Japan.
Exploring the country. The thing that struck me was how different the Japanese people are
compared to westerners.

But then again, from their viewpoint we are the different ones.

I realized, in Japanese culture. Every person is treated a little bit differently when it comes
to their abilities. Their cultural bracket is a little bit different. Different things are expected of
them. Their intelligence is shaped a little bit differently due to their society having different
values compared to ours.

This on the other hand through genetic selection has led to their genes being geared towards
different skills than those of westerners. Or Africans.

They put less time to arts, to free time, to leisure. I think this explains why they do not
become great rock and rollers. For the most part, they are not given as much freedom in
early teen age years as in west. The hippie culture in then 60es would have been inconceivable
in Japan.

Just like it would have been in the west had the world war two not happened.
Unlike in Japan, there was a strong counter culture movement at this time in west,
a reaction by young people against the madness of war. Which led to the hippie
movement. Hippie movement which became part of our collective intelligence.

The reason why Japan could not have such a strong counter culture movement on the
other hand was born out of the generations long expectations that children were
supposed to respect their elders. Way more effort is put to instill this in children.

I imagine the endless Samurai wars in Japan has something to do with this. Respect
was learned or your head was chopped off. So it was better to learn to respect
people who seemed important, people who were carrying a sword. And knew
what to do with it. A lot of of time those people were just old, important people
who had a few Samurai warriors at their beg and call. So. Respect. Was always
important. And children REALLY needed to learn that. I am sure there were other
reasons. But that is one that first came to my mind.

Then I began thinking about third world countries.

How in third world countries intelligence is shaped by necessity. A lot of people here
in the west and in Japan might judge third world country people as less intelligent.
When it is not necessary so.

I think people in third world countries just shape their intelligence in a different way.

More of their intelligence is going to necessities. They have to learn how to survive
instead of learning the names of the latest pop stars and how to behave in Target when
your friend Brandy comes bragging about her latest boyfriend.

Often that need to survive leads to very different values. You may need to be more
religious because your brain is constantly sending you a signal that you are literally
in danger of dying. You absolutely have to know how to make food / how to make
money out of your meager resources.

I think that keeps third world countries locked in the cycle of poverty.
The cultural identity that locks people in a certain way of thinking.

Now, lets think what would happen if they would let go of that.
Lets imagine a black girl comes from Ethiopia to United States.

Lets imagine her name is.. Leela. She comes to the United States when she is
baby. She is adopted to a white family. She does learn how to behave in Target.
She does learn the names of the pop stars. Maybe she has a dream of going to
become a art major.

She learns how to play guitar. How to do her make up. What to order from
Starbucks and how to party with her friends. She learns how to ski. How to
talk to different kinds of people around her.

She believes she never has to live the way a person has to live in Africa.

She does not comprehend life in Africa. She is very thankful for having been
adopted to the United States.

Then comes a fascist president who decides that people of African origin have
to be returned back to Africa.

Now. It is unimaginable scenario.

But lets say there is a rebirth of SS in America this time around.

The baby is returned.

Somehow she finds herself from African small town, left there from a back of a truck
and no matter how she cries for mother or God or mercy.

The truck does not come back.

Her tears run down her cheek. She looks around. Sees black people.

Knows she came from there. But she has nail extensions and her US passport is
taken away.

Would she know how to survive?

Sure she could learn that. But at that point it is too late. She is.. 25 years old.

She would have to learn. She would have to learn the language. She could hustle.

But she looks at these people. They are different. They do not care about Pop stars,
they do not care about Starbucks even though a lot of her coffee beans did come
from Ethiopia which is close by. Nor could they imagine paying 6 bucks a cup
for a coffee.

No sir.

They would rather use that on wheat and basic food substances. Anything else
would be just plain insanity.

So she will cry and go to sleep missing her old life for the rest of her life.

Meanwhile your basic child born to that area. She does not know better.

When she is adult. She is happy to have some grain. Basic food substances.
Maybe love of someone. A family. Which is way more important due to the
fact that the family is the only safety net that the child will have.

Her / his intelligence is shaped vastly differently due to this. She has to be loyal
to her family, to her village. Because they are the only thing she has to look after her.
It is not necessary in modern west to know how to shear the wool off the sheep.
But for her. These tasks would be vital.

On the other hand we have affected third world too. I have heard that the vast
amounts of second hand clothing that flow to third world have made people even
there lose some of these skills.

Some very weird values are carried especially by children to this day even in the
west which I can explain only as a cultural artifact from our cultural past.

Like kids make fun of smart kids. I think this is a cultural artifact from times when
it seemed to make no sense to think, to write. When having a laugh with friends and
fighting a war, milking a cow made more sense. Finding a girl!

We know that intelligent people are gaining some more value in developed world
even as children. We see the value of book smarts. But intelligence was scoffed
at a lot by ordinary folk during our cultural history.

It took a long time for the cultures to develop to a level where we do not necessary
need the safety net of our families. Where we can think about having children
very late. Or not at all.

Since there are people taking care of us other than our family. There are government
programs that help us when we are old.

All of this is like cultural programming. Our governments, our cultures are formed
from our fears and from our hopes. Our governments build schools to give our children
increasingly better education. Our cultures let our kids explore their feelings, their
artistic needs to make them understand why life feels so hard, so wonderful.
Our retirement programs take care of our basic needs when we are no longer
able to work. Our medical programs take care of our illnesses so
we do not have to die from diseases we would die in third world from.
Our churches cater for our spiritual needs when we face hard times. Or good
times.

This shapes our intelligence. The loads the government carries are off us.
The things we do not think about are freed for other tasks. We have limited capability
after all.

The interesting question is that if we make some kind of bond with machines in the
future. How would that further affect our skill sets. I think the beginnings to this
can already be seen in how we let cell phone remember things for us. We do not
worry about going to some address since the phone will lead us there. We do not
have to remember as many trivial things that we did have to remember before.

I could expand this into cultural PTSD and cultural memory. Since I definitively
sense damage from the past in most countries. But that is a whole another subject,
which I am sure has been explored wholly by some scientists I have never
heard of.

Back to cultural intelligence.

I am from Finland. I was married to American for 16 years. She never understood
the serious Finns. I understand it is a artifact from our wars. From our hard past,
there was not much laughing in Finland due to endless wars which were fought
by all. Our macho culture is no doubt a artifact from a time when men had to
be men. Because we had to be a little bit mad from time to time.

In our neighboring Sweden meanwhile. You can literally sense people are softer.
They did not have world war two. Their fathers did not die in droves fighting Russia.
I have a strong feeling that if we had not had the war. Finland would be a lot more
like Sweden.

But. My parents did not get to dream of going to art school. They got to milk a cow,
to harvest a field, to learn how take care of a horse. Sure my father became engineer
later on and learned the mathematics needed to build things. But that was only
due to our school system getting better at that time.

A little earlier you had to be rich or very gifted to go to school like that.

Our cultural intelligence had learned that it is good to put children to school.

Some cultures simply can not afford to develop theirs to that level.

They never know if the hard times will return. So they can not develop to that
level. It is a little bit like how bad nutrition affects a child that is growing up.
Starvation, affects the brain.

A nation can not dream of greatness if it is barely surviving. Just like a human
being who is starving.

Reason to my epilepsy has been found.

I have abnormal vein in the brain that has caused brain hemorrage at some point. It took 9 years to get this far.

The Finnish public health care did not want to take a MRI. I took one with exact location of epilepsy at private clinic and they found it.

About the varying quality..

I know the quality of my my pieces varies. For years I made one instrumental every day!

That, while taught me a lot did not always promise best results. Also during that time my epilepsy and bi polar were getting worse..

I think bi polar makes me a very uneven person.. At my best I almost feel like I could write a "not bad" song.. At my worst.. God of music help me for I have sinned. :)

I do publish both good and bad, I know I lose a lot of people by doing it. But here is the thing. I HATE to choose "good pieces", because I am my own worst critic..

So I leave up both the good and the "not bad" songs..

Until I find someone to pick better pieces for me..

You are gonna be a rock and roll star

Vocals

Instrumental

Old song originally from 2005

I used the "NewTime" that comes with FLstudio 20.6, thank you Image Line for making it free for
people with PRO edition and up. I did a lot of work on it and added some words and new guitars

You are gonna be a rock and roll star
**************************************

It is a long long way to LA
on a Grayhound bus night turn to day
they do not want you back in your home town
you are super freak, so they say

but everything will be better
endless sunny weather
you can buy that big old villa
from the hills above the town

you are gonna be a rock and roll star
i can see, you will go far

And everything will be fine
its your time to shine
drinking blueberry wine
blow the moon off the sky

come on come on come on
you are gonna be a rock and roll star
travel high, travel far

and there is a gonna be a legend
told around your town
there used to be a freak round here
who did not listen, did not care
bout the rules set by the system
living like outlaw

but everything will be better
endless sunny weather
you can buy that big old villa
from the hills above the town

walking down
sunset boulevard
doing high kicks
being rock and roll star

you are gonna be a rock and roll star
i can see, you will go far

And everything will be fine
its your time to shine
drinking blueberry wine
blow the moon off the sky

walking down
sunset boulevard
doing high kicks
being rock and roll star

you are gonna be a rock and roll star
i can see, you will go far

walking down
sunset boulevard
doing high kicks
like rock and roll star

come on come on come on
you are gonna be a rock and roll star
travel high, travel far

Do You Ever Miss You (2020)

Vocals

Old Divorce song I wrote in 2008, which now, almost on the eve of our
final divorce is more relevant than back then.

Do You Ever Miss You

boxed in the corner
black old trunk
covered with dust
old love it died

pictures of wedding
old used bedding
moments in time
buried for life

do you ever miss you
the way you used to be
sometimes i miss me
the way i used to be

its amazing
times are changing
everything is re arranging
i hardly know
who am i
i hardly recognize
this strange face
who am i
cause i do not know
who are you

Forever was so short
oh my love

you said you dont love me
anymore

and i try to fight the aging
but i lose everytime
the more i fight
the more i suffer
the more i want to die

its amazing
times are changing
everything is re arranging
i hardly know
who am i
i hardly recognize
my own face

do you ever miss you
the way you used to be
sometimes i miss me
the way we used to be
the way we used to be

what used to be
