Slave Of A Machine

I woke up this morning and watched Rick Beato preach.

"Perfect is the enemy of good.":

While I can see that in live type setting this is no doubt true.

I am thinking part of his problem is the same as mine.

Getting old. With me even more so because my particular kind of epilepsy

and pills for it.. Make me able to "feel things". Only in very limited settings..

Meanwhile, kids feel EVERYTHING..

Getting old. With all of us. It is normal to not feel things as much. He has
really good attachments to his childhood music. .

The point I am getting to here is.. What ever you listen to when you are young.
Or what ever kind of music you listen to when you are young..

You are ALWAYS going to be partial to that kind of music.

It is hard to learn to like NEW kind of music when you are old.

If it is completely different, it may be nigh impossible.

Sure I am beginning to like Jazz in my old age as is Rick. But that I think
is something that happens when you MAKE music. You want to listen to music
that can surprise you. And the plain old 4 chords or variations there of.
No longer surprise you..

Especially if you make / produce / engineer the 4 chord kind of music EVERY SINGLE
DAY FOR WORK.

But what do I know.

Here is a quantified, robotic song. Name came from thinking about all this.

The work in progress title for the song was "Post Communist China".. :D

Choices To Make (Hearts To Break)

Vocal

Instrumental

I wrote the instrumental this morning after watching this youtube video break down of "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars:

Basically.. Pop music CAN BE REALLY COMPLICATED. Is what I took home from it.

So I began writing down all sorts of weird chords. All leading back to D Major.

That is the one thing that ties this thing down... But then I began making all sorts
of weird chords that resolve around there.. Took it out of those chord circles a bit
and then brought it down. I dunno if it works?

The song ends in A Major.. I did it by feel. Which is how I imagine most rock / pop musicians
do this thing. I do not think they think about it quite as mathematically as the guy in the
video. Which was very entertaining though.

After that I wrote down some drums. Added melodies.. Bass.. Bounced the piano chords

and melody to wav file, processed those with blur in Edison.. Brought the blur effect here
and there a little bit.. Sidechained the bass to drums.. Etc..

Here my wife enters the picture.. My wife came up with "Choices To Make, Hearts To Break".

Sometime back.. We have been joking about what rhymes with it since then..

Among them were.. Choices to make, hearts to Break, cakes to bake, throw them in the lake..
Etc..

Listening to the song I realized there is a place where "Choices To Make.." could be a chorus..

Then I starting writing down this cliched story..

But at the same time.. I could see it happening..

So if you hate it.. I understand.. Oh well.. Maybe it should have been "Choices To Make, Cakes To Bake"..

Choices To Make (Hearts To Break)

choices to make
she has got choices
 to make
hearts to break

she was looking for a Christ on charger
but found a a broken man
their life was a endless fight
but they rang that rusty bell

one day she was early
home from the work
she heard the moans
calling her man

she walked out
day turned in to the night
there was bells
someone
asked
are you
fine?

choices to make
she has got choices
 to make
hearts to break

it's just the end of the world
she is not feeling fine

she never came home
she never said why
she left him cold
in his cheaters bed

choices to make
she had choices
choices to make

Abandoned Colony On Gliese 581c

Another project using the OrchesTools sounds.

This time the project has two FLP files in the zipped folder.

The first one (Abandoned Colony On Gliese 581c.flp) contains project that has the
sampletank 3 players with corresponding Orchestools instruments used. I bumped the
instruments from the sampletank there to wav files because the project was so heavy.

Then I made second one (Abandoned Colony On Gliese 581c #2.flp) that uses mostly the
wav files so that the project runs better plus one instance of sampletank with orchestools
instrument.

I usually don't do "creepy vibes" much. But the sounds just inspired me to write it..

It is maybe a little too slow. But I did not feel like changing the tempo because I would have
had to up the tempo and re render the instruments that were bumped to wav.. So the generic
130 it is.. :D

Learning To Walk

In this project I use OrchesTools V1 for the Sampletank 3
that was made by Ijir Bajri who used the Versilian Free orchestral
library to make it.

It is GREAT FREE addition to other orchestral free libraries.

I used the "Jupiter Pad", flute # 3 and the shoosh in the end from OrchesTools.

Day Is A Long Time For A Butterfly / Porch Pooper (V2)

Vocal

Instrumental

#pop

I made a new version of "Porch Pooper" and added
vocals to it:

Day Is A Long Time (For A Butterfly)

day is a long time
for a butterfly

no use wasting it
sitting around

spread your wings and fly

in this old world
so full of stains and grime
don't you know that you're
like the sun

from a flower to flower
you are the star of the hour
you are the color that shines
when there is  just gray for miles

so baby show us those wings
and make us feel there is some magic
be the breath of a God
that still might walk

when i am all spent

and i got nothing

when i am losing faith

when all, feels fake

be the apple of my eye
be the magic of the night
be the dance that floats
be the violin that soars

be the key to my lock
make me feel moonstruck
like i never was in pain
make it all go away

when all is lost
and nothing makes sense
please lead the way
please lead us back home

from flower to flower
you are the star of the hour
you are the color that shines
when there is  just gray for miles

so baby show us those wings
and make us feel there is some magic
be the breath of a God
that still might walk

day is a long time
for a butterfly

no use wasting it
sitting around

spread your wings and

 fly
